Thank you for thinking about
becoming a Trustee at the 1st Hoveton and Wroxham
Here is the information about this role in
Scouting.
What are Trustees?
The 1st Hoveton and Wroxham Scout Group is an
independent Charity which is part of the Scout Movement.
It is a legal requirement for charities to have Trustees.
The Trustees are responsible for the charity's assets like
buildings, equipment and money. They oversee the assets
and take responsibility for ensuring that they are used
wisely and in accordance with the aims of the charity.
They make an annual report to the Charity Commission.
Some Trustees have specific jobs like Chairman, Secretary
and Treasurer others are just members of the Board of
Trustees.
Being a Trustee is an important and responsible role.
Who can be a Trustee and how are they
appointed?
Any responsible person over the age of 18 and who is not
bankrupt or who has certain convictions can be a Trustee.
In practice this means that the vast majority of adults
can do this role.
Trustees are recommended by the Group Lead Volunteer and
then are elected at the Annual General Meeting. Other
Trustees can be co-opted as required at any time.
Typically, the officers (Chairman, Secretary and
Treasurer) are the ones elected at the AGM although others
might be. All Trustees are equal and have a vote.
What do Trustees do?
Trustees are members of the Board of Trustees (BOT). They
meet every other month (or at any other time if necessary)
to carry out their duties of overseeing the Group's
assets. Meetings follow a set agenda typically as follows:
Apologies
Minutes of the previous meeting
Matters arising
Review of Action Points
Treasurer’s Report
Charity Commission Annual Report
HQ upgrade and extension
Progress Report
Next stage
plans
Latest changes from Scout HQ
Transformation
Project
Items to purchase
Review of past events
Future Events
Group Calendar
for the year
Group Camp
Safety Safeguarding and Risk Assessments
Yellow and
Purple Cards
Any other business
Trustees ensure the Groups Assets are used safely and
wisely and approve expenditure requests from Section
Volunteers. The agenda may include other items as
required.
Trustees do not organise Scouting events. This is for the
Section Volunteers to do. However, Trustees are members of
the Group and can take part in Scouting activities. So
feel free to join in if you want to.

training?
